Every year in January or February when the weather is suitable we will look to plant at least 100 new cricket bat willow trees in areas that cricket bat willow thrives. A good low lying field with a good natural water source such as a brook or stream is ideal for cricket bat willow to grow.
The “set” (or sapling) is already 4 to 5 years old when it is planted. It will grow for another 15+ years before being big enough to fell. When the trunk of the tree reaches 55 inches in circumference the tree is big enough to fell and bring to the Kippax yard for clefting.
